We purchased our 20 acre farm in Langley in 2005 and have been slowly working at building and expanding our horse facility. We are not a registered not for profit, what we do is a hobby and we are lucky enough to have the property to facilitate our passion, care and love for horses.
Hayburner Haven takes in horses and re-homes them to loving homes. These horses come in for various reasons, some of which include financial, relocating families, homes not able to handle the horse and horses coming from bad situations. Hayburner Haven re-homes more than 100 horses a year.
We strongly believe most people have the best of intentions for their horses but sometimes lack the knowledge, experience, a support-system or knowing where to look for help. We want to be that help.
We want to provide a program that will offer guidance and support for people having difficulty maintaining their horses. We would like to be that someone that can assist, free of judgement and consequences from authority. To be easily contacted before it gets to the point where the SPCA gets involved. We would come and help people assess their horse's needs with a plan of action to improving their horse's living conditions and care, within their own budget. Should these options not be possible, we want to offer our help to the owner with finding an alternative for their horse, such as: selling, re-homing, surrendering to a rescue or, if for medical or age related reasons, euthanasia and the different options surrounding that.
For the horse owners that are lacking the knowledge in caring for their horse, we would like to offer, free, one-day clinics with the basics of horse care and management, as well as many other topics. For continuing education, our plan is to have lectures and clinics that we can suggest, such as: equine first aid and equine dental, etc. We have a few equine professionals on board already with the list growing daily. We already have interest from people wanting to attend the clinics.
We are in the process of planning to build a covered roundpen at our farm this year. It has been one of our goals for many, many years. This would allow us to continue working with the horses we take in over the winter and the horses with minimal handling in a safe environment. This would also provide us the space needed to host the free, one-day clinics.
We are blessed with a very handy and hardworking family who has helped build all we have built on the farm since purchasing the property. But...to realize our goals, we need your help! We need the funds for the footings and building materials to take this to the next step.
